Hello from FRGTN
Why we are building a small, independent software studio in Brno. And what we want it to stand for.
FRGTN is an independent software studio in Brno. Small on purpose, close to the work, and interested in products that remain useful after the novelty wears off.
The name comes from forgotten s.r.o., the company behind the studio. FRGTN is where we design, build, and operate software—and where we write down what the work teaches us.
Why a small studio
Small teams make the distance between a decision and its consequences shorter. The person choosing how something should work is also close to the code, the interface, the support request, and the next version.
That changes the questions we ask. Not only “Can we build this?” but also:
- Does it deserve a place in somebody’s day?
- Can we explain it without theatre?
- Will we still be comfortable maintaining it years from now?
- What can we remove before we add something else?
Staying small is not about doing less ambitious work. It is about keeping responsibility visible.
Products over performances
We want FRGTN to be known through the products it cares for, not through a long list of capabilities or a louder sales funnel.
That means making real things, operating them, listening when they cause friction, and improving them at a pace we can sustain. Some work will be open source. Some ideas will remain experiments. The useful ones should grow into products with their own identity and community.
Human first
Software is rarely the most important thing happening in a person’s life. Good software understands that.
We care about calm interfaces, honest language, sensible defaults, and notifications that earn the interruption. We prefer clarity over cleverness and durable decisions over short-lived visual noise.
This does not mean making everything minimal. It means giving each detail a reason to exist.
From Brno, built openly
Brno gives the studio a useful scale: strong technical communities, thoughtful people across disciplines, and enough life outside the screen to keep the work in perspective.
The products can travel much further. Code, documentation, decisions, and lessons can be shared from anywhere. These Notes are part of that. An open workbench for the things worth explaining along the way.
